What to do with old lead-acid golf cart batteries.

Posted by Andrew Kephart on May 18, 2023

Here's a list of a few places that will help you properly dispose of your old golf cart batteries. Please note, if your batteries have any life left to them you may be able to sell them to someone looking for a set of used batteries. We recommend apps like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Offerup.

If your batteries are completely dead, you can try one of these 5 places:

  1. AutoZone: AutoZone is a nationwide automotive parts retailer that accepts old lead-acid batteries, including those used in golf carts. They have numerous stores across the United States, making it convenient to drop off your batteries. Simply bring your old battery to any AutoZone location, and they will assist you with the proper disposal.

  2. Advanced Auto Parts: Advanced Auto Parts is another well-known nationwide automotive parts retailer that often offers battery recycling services. They have stores throughout the country and typically accept old lead-acid batteries, including those from golf carts. Visit their website or contact your local Advanced Auto Parts store for more information.

  3. NAPA Auto Parts: NAPA Auto Parts is a trusted name in the automotive industry and operates stores across the United States. Many NAPA Auto Parts locations have recycling programs in place and accept old lead-acid batteries. Check their website or contact your local NAPA store to inquire about their battery recycling services.

  4. O'Reilly Auto Parts: O'Reilly Auto Parts is a nationwide chain of automotive parts stores that often has recycling programs for various types of batteries, including lead-acid batteries. They have locations throughout the country, and you can check their website or contact your local O'Reilly store to confirm if they accept old golf cart batteries.

  5. Walmart: Walmart is a prominent retail chain that operates stores nationwide and offers various recycling programs. While their battery recycling focus is primarily on household batteries, some Walmart stores may accept old lead-acid batteries, including those used in golf carts. It is recommended to contact your local Walmart store or check their website for specific information on battery recycling services.

Please note that while these companies have a nationwide presence and often accept old lead-acid batteries, it is advisable to contact your local store or check their websites for up-to-date information regarding battery recycling services, specific requirements, and any potential fees associated with the disposal of golf cart batteries.
